Hairstyle Trends: Trendy Textures MATTE

An ideal summer style for guys, as well as girls wtih short haircuts, the matte look reflects a modern urban style wtih control and firmness. "A matte finish provides a clean and natural look," Joseph says. Women with long hair can also get the matte effect by putting hair in a ponytail and then using a wax or paste product on the tail for a natural yet controlled look.

Hairstyle Trends: Trendy Textures BEACHY

According to Valery Joseph, Owner of NY Valery Joseph Salons, beachy waves are the most-requested look for summer. Ideal for medium-to-long hair that is not too curly or too straight, the style is sexy and practical for both summer days and nights. "It's a great look for a party or a night out on the town," Vince Smith says."The style is really versatile and looks great on almost anybody"

What do our stylist think? Here at Sam and Bill's we think beachy waves are in ALL year, they're a great way to bring summer into every season!

Hairstyle Trends: Trendy Textures WET

Both Vince Smith, owner of The Vince Smith Hair Experience in Manhattan, and Valery Joseph, Owner of NY Valery Joseph Salons reccomend the wet look for formal occasions. "The slick, pulled-back high ponytail or top knot is great for clients who are going to a chic high-fashion event," Smith says. Joseph suggests that thick-haired clients should apply gel to achieve the wet look, while fine-to-normal haired clients should use mousse to give hair some texture and body. "Seemingly wet hair gives clients more control," Joseph says.

Hairstyle Trends:Trendy Textures CURLY

Curly: While curls can be a convenient hairstyle for many during the humid summer months, the elements can leave hair puffy and frizzy. According to Valery Joseph, owner of Valery Joseph Salons in Manhattan and Bridgehampton, NY, curly-haired women should slather wet hair with a conditioning product, then pull it into a ponytail at first to put tension on the roots. Says Joseph, "When hair is taken out of the ponytail, the weight of a heavy conditioner stretches the curls and leaves them with a sexy wave."

Makeup Tips

Here are some basic application tips from ColorRevolution that are sure to enhance natural beauty:

Eyes: Brush the eyebrows in the natural direction they grow. Mix a little primer and an appropriate eyeshadow shade to fill in any missing spots in the brow area using a small brush. Brush eyebrows again in a natural direction to get rid of excess color.

Lips: Apply clear lipstick to your lips. Then, using a lip brush, dip into the color of your choice and apply to lips. Do the above with any of your colored lipsticks as well to match your mood!

Nails: Using a clear nail polish, dip brush into polish and then into the color of your choice and apply directly to your nails. Before drying, sprinkle some glitter on top for a glamorous look!

Timeless Hair tips for any age

1. Moisture, moisture, moisture: Using a good conditioner will not only help hair stay manageable, but will also help protect your strands from heat and other environmental factors by strengthening and coating the hair shaft.

If you normally use hot hair tools (blow dryers, hot irons, electric curlers) every day, try and give your hair a break during the summer months. Consider letting your air dry. Take a break from hot curling.

For extra conditioning treatment apply a deep conditioner to damp or dry tresses, wrap in plastic wrap or a shower cap just before bedtime. Allow the deep conditioner to soak into damaged hair sections overnight for extra repair and re-moisturizing benefits. Try our It's a 10 Miracle Mask or Pureology Nanoworks Luxury Hair Masque. We also offer a deep conditioning treatment!

2. Protect:
Use SPF Shampoos to protect your hair from the sun. Direct sunlight will damage your hair. In addition, use sunscreen products made for hair. Try our Redken Sun Control and Spray with SPF.

3. Go easy on wet hair:
Wet hair is much more likely to tangle and break than dry hair, so be extra gentle with your locks while they are drying.

4. Use natural or rubber bristle brushes:
Rubber bristles are great for wet or damp hair because they trap heat and allow fragile, wet hair to glide through without tugging. Natural bristles are best for drier hair because the natural fibers grab hair's natural oils and help distribute them from root to end for optimum moisture retention. Avoid plastic-bristle brushes as they can promote static, distribute heat unevenly and do not help spread natural oils. Try our Marilyn Brushes with natural bristles recommended by every stylist.

5. Update your look every couple of years:
Your hairstyle can be your best asset or your worst enemy. An outdated look can age a woman years.

Techniques:
Waves are always in, no matter what the season, so that’s why you can never go wrong with this style. Twist your strands around your fingers for a piecey, almost tangled look. You can also curl your hair midway and tousle with your fingers or have a sexy swept pony by pulling the pony to the side and working a texturizing cream through it.

If you have big curls and full hair, don’t fight it! Let your wild curls come to life this summer; after all, it’s all about bringing out that natural beauty! Curl random strands here and there with a curling iron, leaving some looser than others. You can also do a half-up bump while styling the pony with a spray gel. Already have a full head of curls? Fluff them up with a serum to get the most out of them!

Tie it back. When you participate in athletic endeavors this summer, choose a classic style. A simple ponytail, a braid or pigtails can give your hair the best functional look and feel. Keeping your hair off your back and out of your eyes makes you more comfortable and gives you better concentration.

Don't apply shampoo directly to the top of your head. Apply shampoo from the nape of the neck first, and then work it through the rest of your hair.

Distribute cleansing and styling products evenly through your hair. When you apply conditioner, use a comb to spread the product evenly through your hair. Try using our Denman be-Bop Massage brush or Scalp Scrub for a healthy scalp.

If all else fails, wear it straight. If you don't feel like fighting with your hair today, wear it down. For hair that behaves rather well, consider letting your hair dry naturally. If your hair requires more maintenance, apply a gentle styling product to prevent frizzy hair. Remember, a sexy, straight hairstyle can be perfect with any outfit, for any occasion.
